Vocational & Skills Training

There is a strong need for alternative education programs (AEP), such as skills or vocational training for those that drop out at secondary-school-age level. Brydges Centre Skills Training Project provides vocational skills training and internship placement for out of school youth and as an exit strategy for our children who fail to secure opportunities to join mainstream colleges and universities. We believe that talent and skills development is key in ensuring that the youth become self-sufficient. We have also introduced entrepreneurship training and seed funding to selected and viable business plans presented by the trainees.
We enroll 20 students per year and take them through short term but extensive training in wide range of skills including:
- Fashion design,
- Cosmetology
- ICT Training,
- Phone repair skills
- Catering and Housekeeping and Handcrafting.
Spiritual and character formation for us is essential: bible lessons, common prayers and life-skills training cuts across the entire program. Former beneficiaries have gone on to get employed and others have started their own businesses. Our market absorption rate is at 80%, majority of the remaining 20% scale-up to high levels of skills development (further training).
